What it checks
Everything a link preview needs
Each rule follows the platform’s own published guidance, named in the questions below.
Link bots can open the page
The page is fetched as X, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, Facebook, WhatsApp, iMessage fetch it. A firewall or bot check that refuses one of them leaves a bare link on that platform.
Share image
og:image exists, downloads, is a JPG, PNG, WEBP or GIF under 5 MB, at least 600px wide and close to 1.91:1 (1200 × 630 px works everywhere).
Preview title
og:title is set and short enough to show whole (about 70 characters).
Preview description
og:description or the meta description says what the page is in about 160 characters.
X card type
twitter:card is set; summary_large_image shows the wide picture.
Shared address
og:url and the canonical address point at the same page, so every share counts for it.

Questions
About link previews
What size should og:image be?
1200 × 630 pixels (1.91:1). Facebook asks for at least 1200 × 630 for the best display and 600 × 315 at the least; X’s large image card takes 2:1 down to 300 × 157, under 5 MB, as JPG, PNG, WEBP or GIF (not SVG); LinkedIn uses 1.91:1. One 1200 × 630 JPG or PNG works on all of them.
Does X still need twitter:card?
X’s card documentation lists twitter:card as required. For the title, description and image, X falls back to og:title, og:description and og:image when its own twitter: tags are missing.
I fixed the tags. Why does the old preview still show?
Platforms keep a copy of each link’s preview. Facebook’s Sharing Debugger and LinkedIn’s Post Inspector fetch it again on request; others refresh it after a while. This checker always fetches the page fresh.
Why would a platform get no preview at all?
Most often a firewall or bot protection answers the platform’s bot with a block or a challenge page, or the share image sits behind a sign-in. The first check above fetches the page as each bot does and shows what it got.
Is it free?
Yes, with no sign-up. It reads your page’s HTML and image only; it never changes anything.
