UTM links that land in the right GA4 channel.

Fill in the page and where you share it. You get the tagged link, the GA4 channel it lands in under Google’s own rules, and what to fix before you post it.

    What it checks

    A link GA4 can sort

Every check follows Google’s published channel rules and its list of search, social, video and shopping sites.

    • The GA4 channel

Your source and medium run through Google’s default channel rules, in the order Google lists them, so you see Email, Organic Social, Paid Search or Unassigned before the link goes out.

    • Sites GA4 does not know

Google’s list of social sites has twitter and t.co, but not x, x.com, threads, bluesky, discord or producthunt (checked 1985). Tag those with a medium GA4 understands.

    • Unassigned links

A medium no rule knows (post, qr, print, story) leaves the visit Unassigned. You get the closest medium that works.

    • One spelling

Lower case and hyphens by default, so “Newsletter” and “newsletter” never split into two rows of the same report.

    • Tags already in the address

Old utm_ values in the pasted address are replaced, and the page’s own parameters are kept.

    • The # part

Tags go before any #section of the address, where analytics reads them.

    Channels

Where common links land in GA4

Worked out with the same rules as the builder. The same network can land in two channels depending on the medium.

    How it works

    Three steps, no account

    1. 1

      Paste the page

The address the link should open: your homepage, pricing or a launch post.

    2. 2

      Say where you share it

Pick a place, or type a source and a medium.

    3. 3

      Copy a link that sorts

The channel is shown before you post, and every problem with its fix.

    Questions

    About UTM links

    What are UTM parameters?

Five tags added to a link (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, utm_content) that tell your analytics where a visit came from. GA4 reads them from the address of the page the visitor lands on.

    Which fields do I need?

utm_source and utm_medium: GA4 picks the channel from them. Add utm_campaign to tell one launch or offer from the next. utm_term and utm_content are optional, for keywords and for telling two links in the same post or email apart.

Why does my traffic show as Unassigned in GA4?

No channel rule matched its source and medium. Mediums like post, qr, print or story are not in Google’s rules. Use email for emails, social for posts, cpc for ads, referral for links on other sites and affiliate for partners.

    Does utm_source=x count as social?

Not on its own. Google’s list of social sites (the one GA4’s channel rules use, checked 1985) has twitter and t.co but not x or x.com. Use twitter as the source, or set utm_medium to social.

    Are UTM values case-sensitive?

Google’s channel rules are not, so Email and email land in the same channel. Your reports still show each spelling as its own row, which is why the builder keeps everything lower case.

Should I tag links between my own pages?

No. A tag on an internal link replaces how the visitor really arrived (the search or the post) with your own tag. Tag only the links you share outside your site.

Is it free? Do you see my links?

Free, with no sign-up. The link is built in your browser; what you type is not sent to us. The last link is remembered in this browser only.
